Tigers hope to push for North crown
Gary Pinkel saw continued improvement during the spring on a team that returns 17 starters and comes off a 38-31 win over South Carolina in the Independence Bowl. Yes, QB Chase Daniel should start against Murray State Sept. 2, but a talented defensive line could also be key in helping the Tigers move to the upper-half of the North. Next up: MISSOURI.
BRIEFLY: Pinkel must curb road woes for better showing
7-5, 4-4 in the Big 12 in 2005
Missouri possessed one of the most prolific multidimensional QBs in Brad Smith, but went 3-13 on the road in Big 12 play since 2002. Not all of those losses were due to lack to talent versus the competition. But the margin for mistakes could be thinner than ever in the fall.
Pinkel believes the Tigers got off to a promising start in the spring.
"We just wanted to have our (17) starters have a better spring than the year before," Pinkel said. "I think we have more players in position to play, we just have some areas we have to sort out, but we've made a bit of progress."
Missouri's first Big 12 road game at Texas Tech Oct. 7 will show how far this squad has come.
