Questions Still Exist
After fifteen practices and several quality scrimmage sessions during Oklahoma spring football season, the OU defense made more headlines than the offense. But with a young quarterback, the nation's top running back and several quality young receivers, the offense made big strides as well.
Even though Bob Stoops and Kevin Wilson aren't willing to call this spring a smashing success for the offense, the offensive side of the ball did take several steps forward.
The offensive line is still in a rebuilding stage, but when asked about the positives of the spring, Wilson didn't hesitate to note the progress made in that area of the offense.
"I think we got a lot of work for a lot of talented lineman. In some ways fatigue may have set in with a lot of those guys. They got hit in a lot of situations where they won't arrive with the lack of experience that they did have," said Wilson.
Branndon Braxton and Chris Messner solidified their spots as the starting tackles heading into the 2006 season. Duke Robinson came as close as anyone to nailing down a spot at one of the offensive guard spots. Jon Cooper will return and several quality candidates will vie for the other spot at guard along the offensive line.
And it appears Adrian Peterson's first spring was a very successful one, even though he played under the cloud of a blue jersey in scrimmage situations.
