Spring Preview: Running backs

OStateIllustrated.com The discussion on Oklahoma State's biggest offensive loss from the 2012 squad ends with Joseph Randle. The two-time All-Big 12 performer declared early for the NFL draft and leaves a big hole in the Cowboy offense. Randle amassed 3,085 rushing yards and 40 touchdowns in his three seasons at OSU and was a big part of 2011's unprecedented success in Stillwater.
Randle's numbers could have been even larger, had he been OSU's only top-level back those three years. He was not, and that's the good news for Cowboy fans. Jeremy Smith returns for his senior season and will finally be OSU's featured back. In three seasons, he has tallied over 1,200 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns. His 6.2 yards-per-carry average is second in school history, trailing only Barry Sanders.
Smith's top season came in 2011, when he carried the football 91 times for 646 yards and nine scores. Assuming good health, Smith's carries should easily double that number in 2013.
