Izzo 'not really pleased with this performance'
EAST LANSING, Mich. - With the first Big Ten win of the season out of the way, Tom Izzo still sees plenty of room for improvement.
Even after a dominant second half and a 23-point victory.
"We are not really in synch and I'm not really pleased with this performance," Izzo said after an 84-61 victory over Purdue, Saturday at Breslin Center. "I said to my team, 'We didn't lose by 13 at Minnesota.' It was a two- or three-point game with a couple of minutes left. But we didn't win by 20 today, either. We didn't play well enough to beat a team like that by that many. It got away a little bit at the end.
"But we made some progress and we challenged ourselves and again we took another step and right now in this league you have to just keep taking steps."
Freshman Gary Harris scored a season-high 22 points, and the 18th-ranked Spartans used a 28-7 run in the second half to pull away.
