Harris heats up with shoulder brace off
EAST LANSING - Gary Harris missed two full games after suffering a bruised shoulder on a moving screen during the first 60 seconds of a non-conference game against Boise State.
So it is was a natural response for Tom Izzo to wince when he learned that his star freshman would pick Saturday's game against Loyola-Chicago -- a team that screens as much as any opponent Michigan State has played during the 2012-2013 -- to play without the protective brace on his left shoulder.
"He took the brace off today which I'm not sure if I like," said Izzo. "I might be fist-fighting the doctor tonight, but I think it is more mental than it is physical."
Mental or otherwise, Harris believes playing without a shoulder brace was a factor in his 20-point performance.
"I felt more free with shoulder movement, my shot movement," said Harris, who was 7-of-11 from the field and 5-of-7 from the 3-point line. "It wasn't just so tight with it. But it always helps to see a few shots go down early."
