Sound SEC opening win for State
STARKVILLE, Miss., - Dan Mullen's 10th career SEC victory might be the one that silences his naysayers.
Mississippi State team defeated Auburn soundly 28-10 on Saturday afternoon giving the fourth year head coach his first victory against a Western Division foe not named Ole Miss.
"It feels great," Mullen said. "As of right this second we are in first place in the SEC West. I don't know if that has happened in quite a while at Mississippi State. We've talked since I've been here that we were going to complete for SEC Championships and I've talked about the road we have to take to do that. You have to win your home games. You have to win your conference opener and both of those happened for us today."
It was also the Bulldogs first conference opening win since 1999 and first victory over Auburn at Davis Wade Stadium since 2000.
MSU (2-0, 1-0) rolled up 388 yards on offense with 222 yards passing and another 166 on the ground.
"I loved the leadership of our guys," Mullen said. "They kept it together and had great poise. When I told them to make big plays they did. That was a big difference for us."
