NOTEBOOK: Offense makes strides in scrimmage
AUBURN -- The offense struggled through the Tigers' first scrimmage last week because of troubles along the front line.
Saturday was a much different story.
Fueled by what quarterback Clint Moseley said was "an intense desire to get better in a hurry," the Tigers' offense were much more effective this time around. The group scored on three of its first five possessions and had far less trouble creating meaningful space for tailbacks to do their thing.
"I felt like we got this train rolling," tailback Tre Mason said. "We got our base down, our foundations. We're ready to build this house up and do big things."
An observer said Onterio McCalebb scored on a short run to consummate the offense's first touchdown. Kicker Cody Parkey hit a pair of field goals, including one from approximately 50 yards, to keep things moving.
The first-team offensive line included two true freshmen (Alex Kozan at left guard and Avery Young at right tackle) along with redshirt freshman Greg Robinson, sophomore Reese Dismukes and junior Chad Slade.
