St. Louis athlete commits
Versatile St. Louis athlete Derrick Mitchell Jr. has made his college decision. The 6-foot-0, 185-pound prospect from Vashon High School gave his verbal commitment to the Iowa Hawkeyes today over eight other scholarship offers. Mitchell confirmed the news with Rivals.com this afternoon.
"I committed to Iowa," said Mitchell. "They were the first ones to offer me and I always remembered that. They were the ones that wanted me right from the beginning."
The Hawkeyes extended an offer back in February, which was quickly followed by several others, including Nebraska, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State, and Indiana. But throughout the recruiting process, it was the Iowa coaching staff that stayed after Mitchell the hardest.
