Five-star Hamilton down to two?
Ramsey (N.J.) Don Bosco Prep defensive end Darius Hamilton is set to make his college decision a week from Tuesday and took his official visit to Rutgers this past weekend. With one visit left, the 6-foot-4, 245-pounder admits he's pretty much focused on two schools now.
"It's pretty much down to Rutgers and Florida," said Hamilton, ranked as the nation's No. 11 prospect overall. "When coach Lupoi left Cal that was pretty much it there and I am still taking my Miami official visit this upcoming weekend and anything could happen, but it will take something special to put me off my top two."
And those top two have been schools he has had his eye on for quite some time.
"It's Rutgers and Florida," he said. "Like I said, I could fall in love with Miami and things could change, but I'm focused on those two right now. There's an obvious difference in the level of play between the SEC and the Big East so that's always a factor, but I like both of them."
Hamilton's visit to Rutgers this weekend allowed him to learn more about his home-state school.
"It was a really good visit," he said. "My mom, dad and sister came along and I was able to bond with a lot of the members of the team that I didn't know that well before. I was hosted by Gary Nova who was our quarterback at Bosco and he likes it there a lot. Just getting to see everything again even closer helped."
Hamilton will begin to figure things out after his Miami visit.
"It will come down to what is the best fit for me," he said. "There will be a lot of factors in there and I will start to narrow those down after Miami. Miami is coming in this week and coach Schiano is coming in I think Wednesday. Coach Muschamp already used his in home visit with me so I don't think any coaches from Florida will be up this week."
Hamilton was able to spend time with teammates Leonte Carroo and Yuri Wright as well as other recruits he has gotten to know through the process.
"It was a good group of us there and we had a good time," he said. "We know it's coming down to decision time."
