Mullen talking Tennessee-Martin
Mississippi State picked up its first Southeastern Conference victory this past weekend 28-16 over Kentucky.
The win evened the Bulldogs record at 4-4 leaving them two wins shy of bowl eligibility. Dan Mullen's squad has a chance to edge one step closer to the postseason this weekend hosting FCS opponent Tennessee-Martin for homecoming.
"Coming off the win last weekend against Kentucky we are hoping to build momentum going into the second part of our season," Mullen said. "It's huge for us to finish strong to get ourselves a great bowl game and continue the momentum we're trying to build to build this program to championship level."
The Skyhawks come into the weekend at 5-3 overall and have won two straight tight contests and lost all three games by a combined seven points. UT-Martin has a high-powered offense that averages 440.9 yards and 39.8 points per game. They also have one of the nation's top punt returners in C.J. Estelle, who has returned 15 punts for 294 yards (19.6 avg.) and a touchdown.
"They're a very well coached team," Mullen said. "And they're right there, they're seven points away from being undefeated and potentially being a team to contend for a national title. I don't see them as a team of superstars, sometimes when you look at FCS schools they may have a guy that's a transfer who is kind of a superstar. I don't see them as that, I see them as a very, very good football team across the board. Very balanced and well-coached and sound in all phases.
