A chance at redemption for Mitchell
Charles Mitchell's introduction to college football was a tough one.
In the 2008 season opener the then true freshman safety saw Mississippi State upset by Louisiana Tech 22-14. Now four years later as a senior Mitchell will finally have a chance at redemption.
"That was my first game as a college player," Mitchell said. "I've been wanting to play those guys for a while. I'm glad they are back on our schedule so we can get a chance to go out there and beat them this time."
During his time as a Bulldog, Mitchell has played in every game of his career and earned 28 consecutive starts. He has notched 216 tackles during that span including 4.5 stops for loss, four interceptions, four pass breakups and one forced fumble.
Currently the 5-foot-11, 205-pounder leads the team with 28 tackles in 2011.
"The thing I want to do is a be a leader on the team," Mitchell said. "The first two games my tackling was a little off. I think I did a lot better job Thursday on tackling. I just want to keep being aggressive and keep making tackles and making the plays that I'm supposed to make."
During his last outing against LSU Mitchell recorded a career-high 16 tackles, seven solo and nine assists.
