Bulldogs ready for rivalry game
Mississippi State dropped a heartbreaking double overtime game to Arkansas over the weekend.
Many times a stinging defeat like that could dwell on a team's mind for quite some time. But luckily for the Bulldogs there is nothing like an instate rivalry game to redirect that attention and focus just one week later.
"Certainly this game this week allowed us to put last week's game behind us faster to get ready to go," said MSU head coach Dan Mullen. "We have to get ready to protect our trophy for another year."
MSU won the annual Egg Bowl over rival Ole Miss in Starkville last season 41-27 which sparked the success the Bulldogs have seen in 2010.
"Believe it or not but I don't think we had a great week of practice going into the game last year," Mullen said. "But what I did see is as the game drew closer, we have so many players from the state of Mississippi that they understand and have grown up with this rivalry from when they were little kids until now. Whatever side they were on they certainly knew how big a game that was. As the week went on you could see the focus of our team building more and more and it led to the explosion on the field last year."
The Bulldogs roster is littered with 60 players who hail from the Magnolia State while Ole Miss maintains only 32 players from Mississippi.
