Fresno State vs Louisiana Tech
After a much needed week to rest, the Fresno State Bulldogs will get back on the field as they travel to Ruston, Louisiana as they take on the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs in the annual "Battle for the Bone".
Fresno State is looking to get its sixth win of the season which would make them bowl eligible for the 13th time in Pat Hills 15th season. Also with a win they would improve to 4-1 in the WAC with the two biggest games of the season against Nevada and Boise State to follow.
Fresno State will have to get a great game from its defense and hope that they can keep a solid run game which seems to have found its stride going in this game. Quarterback Ryan Colburn will have to play well and manage the game as Fresno State always struggles in Ruston.
Fresno State: Fresno State will have to get a good game from their running backs in this game. Robbie Rouse who has been coming on strong in the past few games has 266 yards and four touchdowns over the past two games. Another player who will have to play well is Ryan Colburn who has not had great numbers stat wise with only one touchdown pass in his last two games, however he has maintained and managed the games well. Look for Fresno State to score as they are 27th in the nation in scoring averaging 34 points per game.
LA Tech: Lennon Creer will have to play big for LA Tech. Over that past three games he has over 400 hundred yards and six touchdowns his last three games. Against Boise State Creer rushed for 149 yards and two touchdowns. Another player to watch out for is senior quarterback Ross Jenkins who has 2,100 yards and 17 touchdowns this season. With Fresno State being one of the top pass defenses in the nation he will have to perform well for LA Tech to win.
Fresno State: Fresno State's defense has been playing well over the past two games however keep in mind that was against New Mexico State and San Jose State. Senior Defensive End Chris Carter leads the nation in sacks per game with at least one a game. Along with Logan Harrell they have a combined 17 sacks this season. Look for them to play big against LA Tech. Keep an eye on Travis Brown and Lorne Bell to have good games as well.
LA Tech: LA Tech will have to try and keep the score low to have a chance in this game LA Tech allows 29 points per game and will have to keep Fresno State contained. A player to look out for is defensive end Matt Broah who has ten sacks on the season. If he can get pressure on Ryan Colburn that may help LATech stop the passing game of Fresno State.
Fresno State: Fresno State who has been great this year on blocking kicks will have to continue to get pressure on the kickers in this game. Also kicker Kevin Goessling will have to have another great impact. He made four field goals in his last game against San Jose State. He is almost automatic when he kicks so look for maybe a game winning kick from him.
LA Tech: This may be an area that LA Tech can exploit as far as kick and punt returns as Fresno State has been having trouble tackling the returners in the backfield. If LA Tech can get some good punt returns they will be able to have a short field against Fresno State.
Other: Fresno State is 2-2 overall in Ruston. Last Year's game went down to the wire in Bulldog Stadium. Fresno State was able to win the game when Kevin Goessling hit a game winning last second field goal for a 30-28 win. Look for this game to be close and for a big play to turn the tide in the game.
