A fun visit for Oglesby
Josh Oglesby has spent the last two Saturday's in Iowa City. Last week he was there as more of a fan, but this weekend the sharp shooting guard from Cedar Rapids made his official visit to the University of Iowa. After having some time to reflect back on the visit, it appears that the Iowa program put together a strong sales pitch.
"I thought it was a lot of fun," Oglesby said. "I got to spend a lot of time with the coaches and I met some former players and Ashton Kutcher. I couldn't have asked for a better host for my visit than Matt Gatens."
Oglesby is a pretty big fan of the Iowa football team and Gatens introduced him to several Iowa players on Saturday evening at a friend's house and made him feel right at home all weekend.
Along with the currently players, Oglesby also spoke with several former Iowa Basketball players and they made a positive impression on the 6-foot-5 guard who is ranked as the #118 prospect in the Class of 2011.
"I think I learned a lot about the program. When I talked to guys like Jeff Horner, Reggie Evans, Dean Oliver, and Adam Haluska, they all told me that they are all family. Even after not seeing each other for a year, they see each other and it is like yesterday because they are so close at teammates."
Oglesby is also seeing his relationship with Coach McCaffery grow since he took the head coaching position this spring.
"Coach McCaffery has been the lead recruiter for me," he said. "I have only known him for a few months, but as we have more conversations, we get to know each other better and become friends."
Being a local prospect for Iowa, Oglesby is also hearing from Hawkeye fans who are trying to persuade him when he has been on campus the last two weeks. Last weekend, while he was down on the football field before the game, the student section chanted, "Oglesby to Iowa". This weekend while walking to Kinnick Stadium, he and the other recruits on campus heard "Come to Iowa" quite a bit.
Next up for Oglesby is a trip to Minnesota this weekend. Gopher Head Coach Tubby Smith was at his high school today for a visit and he will head to the Twin Cities on Friday to start his official visit and attend the Gophers game against USC on Saturday. The following week he will make his official visit to Arizona State, followed by a trip to Champaign to the University of Illinois.
One thing the talented guard won't be doing is cancel any of his visits. He is very respectful of the time and effort that the coaches have put into his recruitment and will continue to make visits to find the right fit.
"I am sticking to me game plan," he said. "I don't think it is fair to tell these coaches that I am coming and then change my mind. As of right now, I am clueless about what I am going to do. There is so much I am going to learn about these schools in the coming weeks, but I think once I am done with the visits I will know where I want to go."
He says after the visits are completed he will sit down with his family and get their feedback, along with sharing his feelings and then he hopes to make his college choice.
