Quarterback charged after arrest
Spring break did not get off to a good start for Georgia quarterback Zach Mettenberger.
The 18-year-old redshirt freshman from Oconee County was arrested by Remerton police near Valdosta and charged early Sunday morning for alleged underage possession of alcohol disorderly conduct.
Remerton police chief Mike Terrell told UGASports he could not immediately comment until receiving an open records requests to view the police report, but confirmed the arrest did take place.
According to a source at UGA, Mettenberger is back in Athens after bonding out of the Lowndes County jail.
Mettenberger is currently competing for the starting quarterback job at Georgia along with Logan Gray and Aaron Murray.
Head coach Mark Richt was not immediately available for comment as he and the rest of his the coaching staff and their families are on a spring cruise.
