A&M comes close to major upset over Texas
On Thursday before the Texas A&M-Texas game, we listed a number of things that would be required for A&M to pull off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the series. The 49-39 loss indicates that the Aggies came relatively close to doing most of them.
"A&M has to hope that Texas is looking ahead to a BCS bowl, the Big 12 championship game or securing the Heisman for Colt McCoy rather than playing a football game. To use a term found in tennis, Texas has to have some unforced errors."
Texas had at least eight penalties in its four games earlier this season that they were not up by at least 17 points at halftime. Texas finished the game with six penalties which was just short of that, but a few of them came on special teams and helped A&M with field position in the kicking game. The fumble on the short punt helped A&M to get a big touchdown right before halftime.
But overall, Texas did not hurt itself as much as Texas A&M simply came to play.
